I was introduced to gourds by the owner of an Indian Art gallery in Medicine Park, OK. Eleanor gave me a gourd and said: "OK let's see what you can do with this".
The gourd is an interesting piece of "canvas", that can be carved, cut, wood-burned, painted on the surface or whatever your heart desires. Since I have worked with one art form or another, all of my life, I am using the gourd to make sculptures, wood burn images, paint designs or incorporate all. I enjoy working with the gourd and hope that this enjoyment comes across in my art.
Once I find an image in the stone my adventure can begin. Scetches do help in difficult spots but the majority will come from my thoughts and the flow of my tools. My work is not abstract nor is it realistic.
